#33 George Green '57 Chevy convertible

In 1959, Jess Potter entered this #33 57 Chevrolet, in the Convertible series with George Green from Johnson City, TN. and had a Top 5 finish at Columbia Speedway (which was George Greens career best track). In late 1959, George enlisted in the U.S. Army and was sent to Germany for training. George Green did fly back from Germany in 1960, so he could start for Potter, in the Daytona 500. By 1962 the future looked bright for Sgt. Green but for whatever reason it was at the end of the year when, according to Jess's son Mike Potter, "George walked away with about $600.00 ($4, 500.00 in 2012 value) of Dad's Points money" The Potter family still has the letter that George Green wrote apologizing for taking the money and asking for his chance to drive for Jess again. Though Jess Potter did let George drive (3) early races in 63, he was replaced by E.J. Trivette and NEVER got another ride in NASCAR. Car owner Jess Potter passed away in 1981 at the age of (58). To this day, no one knows what happened to George Green, according to Mike Potter; "George just disappeared" Apparently Green passed away in 2010.
